Fire Farm recommends dry cleaning all fabric shades. Fire Farm does NOT recommend washing any shade.
How do I clean the paint finish?
Most marks can be removed with a damp cloth.
How do I clean my paper or plastic shade?
Dust can be removed using a vacuum with a brush attachment. Marks may be removed with an art gum eraser and gentle pressure.
Will the metal mesh shades change color?
The metal mesh used in our shades is made from solid stainless steel, bronze or brass uncoated wire. The stainless steel will retain its original color while the non-ferrous brass and bronze will acquire a natural patina from environmental oxidation over time. This usually manifests itself as a pleasant 'mellowing' and darkening of the shade over several years.
Is there a way to speed up or slow down the patina of the brass and copper metal mesh?
Exposing to corrosive atmospheric elements will accelerate the acquisition of the natural patina. Handling the shades with bare hands can leave oils on the shade from your fingers that may accelerate the patina process unevenly in those areas. At present there is no successful process for applying a protective coating or sealant to the mesh.
Can the metal mesh be cleaned?
Metal mesh shades should not be cleaned with any chemicals as this will very likely permanently discolor your shade in an unacceptable manner. Mesh shades can be lightly dusted with a dry rag or vacuum with a brush attachment. Remember to always wear gloves when handling the metal mesh to avoid transfer of discoloring oils from your hands.
